International training on customs risk management held in Turkmenistan

A three-day training seminar dedicated to advanced methods of risk management in the customs sector was held on 16–18 September 2026 at the Regional Training Centre of the World Customs Organization in Turkmenistan. The international event was organized jointly with the International Trade Centre within the framework of the European Union-funded project “Ready4Trade Central Asia: Fostering Prosperity through the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor”. This was reported by the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.

The training seminar brought together around 30 specialists from the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan. During the event, international expert Sertaç Yapıcı acted as a trainer and provided detailed insights into best practices in risk analysis and management within modern customs administration.

In his presentations, the expert highlighted the features of risk management systems used by customs authorities, modern data analysis methods, and the potential of artificial intelligence technologies in this area. He also highly praised the ongoing efforts in Turkmenistan’s customs system and emphasized the importance of information exchange in strengthening regional and international cooperation.

During the training, customs officers actively participated in practical exercises and discussions, exchanging experience on the preliminary assessment of risk levels for goods and vehicles crossing the border, as well as the effective use of “green”, “yellow” and “red” channels. The participants discussed opportunities for adapting and implementing international best practices in accordance with the specific features of Turkmenistan’s customs system.
